Final Evaluation

Final Evaluation

My first ideas for this exam were to document the different emotions that can be evoked from using different colours and colour combinations. To do this I investigated using nail polishes alongside other materials as the subjects of my images. This inspired me to continue using multiple colours in my images so that I may use editing techniques to create the selective colour effect.

I used many different photographer for this project, the most influential being Damien Hirst. This is because he pioneered the use of different colours being 'flung' at a canvas in random ways, this freedom of creativity is reflected in the effects on the viewer being joyful and creating child-like happiness.

For this project I have consistently used a mixture of both still images and GIF as I found from early experiments that a GIF is an excellent way of engaging a viewer in the image. I have also completed some physical experiments during my research in to Damien Hirst. I used oil paints and a spinning serving platter to replicate the manner in which he creates his paintings, these are in digital format in the Work Record for Damien Hirst.

I reviewed my work by completing a series of best images and them at the end of the Work Records. I also refined my ideas by completing plans after every shoot as this gave them focus which lead to better result in the final images.

Some of my ideas in the beginning, such as the oil paints, were ill fated either due to the practical reasons such as an immense drying time or their unattractive finish and so weren't continued through the project. However, other ideas such as GIFs were successful and I carried these on throughout the investigation.

The most challenging part of the project was considering the different colour combinations during the shoots and finding the physical subjects that I could take photographs of.
